New Years in New York

New York, where the hoy polloi share subway fare with the aristocrats. Buildings that seem to reflect a brief history of time, as opening a great pine to count the rings. What better way to usher in the New Year than the place where it all began. The electricity was ....well.....electric in the air. Although mostly electric currents could potentially arc through a given pocket of air and electrocute you, but you get the point. Stacy and I landed in Newark NJ to a group of customer service oriented people happy to see some Californians bring sunshine to their day. First stop.........The New York Giants game vs. the Patriots. Yes Virgina there is a Santa Claus . Close but no cigar, I could only hope and pray that they would again meet in the Super Bowl.

Day 2 in New York (Sunday) was cold and windy. Stops in time square, Rockefeller and canal street. Can you believe they sell Rolex watches for $20 new york is a special place indeed. Taking the 6 train and fully standing clear of closing doors, we traveled back up to times square for a "cheap tix" musical. Who knew that new years in time square would be a popular time for people to ascend on the city. $250 tix for Little Mermaid for lower orchestra...um....."Stacy let's just catch a movie." Approaching 5p we decided to frequent Isabella's famed for their eggs Benedict and exciting crowd, this ny mainstay overlooks the park on the upper westside. Just great timing that Isabellas was around the corner to Redeemer church. Tim Keller was not there but still a great gospel message. It's always great to travel and attend other church services to get the pulse of Jesus's church in different setting. The new year seemed to bring quite a few people into the church. It was quite crowded with a multicultural assortment of worshipers. Just a great time of worship. Later that night, it was off to the meat packing district for dinner. After aimlessly walking around the lower east side in the 20 degree heat we found the place.

Day 3 (new years eve)- Time square is book ended with two huge towers of Jumbo trons and sparkling billboards. It's sort of like an historical Vegas with a moral background..post Guilianni that is. Starting at 38th and stretching to 50th Time square in more of a rectangle. Our ultra sheek hotel (The Flatotel) was on 52nd, just off the main square but close enough to put a dent in the wallet. Stacy grinded the hotels dot com representative down until he almost gave the hotel away free. Barricades for the new years celebration fills up around 10a, no thank you. Stacy and I preferred to frolic around new york until the celebration. We hung out in the hotel lobby listening to smokey jazz or was it the blues..maybe blue jazz, until about 1 minute till then ran out to the corner of the square.

3-2-1 Happy New Year!!!!! Welcome 2008 - this will be a great year.

5a train ride back to New Jersey with all the other crazy's that just came back from the parties. The announcement to the gate taking the train back was a replay of timesquare with elbows. Stacy and I willed our way onto a train. To the NJ airtrain into the airport.

Flight delayed on United.....stopover in Denver......first class tix back to Los Angeles.
